ClO2 is reddish-yellow gas with a strong stimulating odor smell similar to chlorine and nitric acid.  This reddish-yellow gas liquefies to red-brown liquid at 11 and crystallizes as bright orange crystals at −59 °C, with boiling point of 11, vapour density of 2.3g/L.ClO2  is easy to decompose when exposed to light, and reacts with hot water into hypochlorous acid, chlorine and oxygen. Its solution is relatively stable in shady and cool places. Chlorine Dioxide reacts explosively with many chemical substances, so it’s pretty sensitive to heat, vibration, shock and friction, under which conditions explosion occurs easily due to the decomposition. When affected by heat, light, organic matter or any substances with promotive action to oxidation, the decomposition is promoted and explosion is caused. If diluted with inert gases as air, carbon dioxide and nitrogen, the probability of explosion is lowered. This product is a strong oxidant, with available chlorine 2.6 times more than chlorine. ClO2 is highly corrosive, and can react vigorously with many substances.
